Keeping cool

Especially in light of climate change, heat and cold are key issues in building services engineering, urban planning, energy supply – and medicine. This time, the Institute of Building Technology and Energy (IGE) at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts invited Dieter Kissling, among others, to its traditional seminar. As an occupational physician, he discussed the peculiarities of body temperature, outdated room temperature standards, the dangers of overheating, and various human cooling methods. The most effective way to cool down? Slushies – semi-frozen drinks – which were introduced to the Mediterranean region over 1000 years ago.

Health First

«Health First» is the name of the inspiring exhibition currently on display at the Stapferhaus Lenzburg. As part of the exhibition, Jan Kissling gave a medical perspective presentation to a group of teachers, who are also exposed to particular strains due to their profession. Using concrete examples, he demonstrated that whether through exercise, nutrition, or sleep, as individuals and as a society, we are trying to close the gap between «life expectancy» and «healthy life expectancy». The goal is to grow old healthily and ultimately die healthily.
