Botulinum toxin (Botox® for short) inhibits muscle activity. On the one hand, this is used to smooth wrinkles. On the other hand, it can help alleviate physical complaints, such as migraines and excessive sweating. We will provide you with reliable advice on the possible uses of the preparation and treat you according to your individual needs.

It is a treatment for excessive sweating. Sweating is a normal bodily function that regulates body temperature. Sweat glands are controlled by nerves and hormones. Excessive sweating due to hormonal disorders usually affects the whole body (e.g., in cases of thyroid disease, menopause, etc.), and is treated accordingly. Stress-reducing therapies may help. Medication may normalize sweating (e.g., hormone administration). Avoiding caffeine and nicotine can also help.

However, if increased sweating occurs only in certain areas of the body (e.g., hands, armpits, forehead), a local regulatory disorder of sweat production may be the cause. If this regulation is not «adjusted» properly, localized increased sweating can occur even without physical exertion, especially in the armpits and/or on the hands and feet. In most patients, the extent of increased sweating can be determined by means of a gravimetry test (measuring the amount of sweat per unit of time).

During an outpatient procedure, a specific amount of botulinum toxin A is precisely injected into designated areas of the face with a thin needle. The pain experienced is comparable to that of a mosquito bite.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, in cases of neuromuscular diseases such as myasthenia gravis (severe, general muscle weakness), eyelid weakness, existing blood clotting disorders, known hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin or human albumin (blood protein), treatment with botulinum toxin should only be carried out after careful consideration of the possible risks.
